Cue the Confetti: Stepping Onto the Stage for a Brand New Act!

Man on Stage deliverying a monologue

Well, the house lights are shining, the overture is playing, and there is an extra candle on the cake today! It is my birthday, and as I blow out the candles, I cannot help but think about how much a new year of life feels like the opening night of a brand-new act.

In church theater, we spend hours rehearsing lines, blocking scenes, and perfecting the lighting. But in the theater of life, we are mostly doing improv. We step onto the stage every morning, not entirely sure what our scene partners will say or what unexpected props will suddenly be handed to us.

But here is the beautiful part: we are not the ones writing the script. The Ultimate Playwright has already penned the storyline. When we miss a cue, stumble over our lines, or find ourselves in the middle of a plot twist we did not see coming, His grace covers all the bloopers. Every scene, the comedies, the heavy dramatic pauses, and even the mundane set changes work together for a spectacular purpose.

As I celebrate this milestone today, I am focusing on bringing three things into this next act:

  • Better listening: The best acting is actually reacting. I want to listen closer to the Director's cues this year.
  • A lighter costume: It is time to leave behind the heavy baggage and unnecessary props that do not serve the story anymore.
  • More applause for others: Taking time to cheer on the incredible castmates God has placed on this stage with me.

Thank you for being such a wonderful part of the DramaShare cast and audience. Your creativity and passion keep this ministry vibrant year after year!
